Urgent Neonatal Medical Evacuation From Serdang to NUH Singapore
Medivac Emergency Ambulance Service (Medivac EAS) recorded its first cross-border ambulance activation for hospital transfer to Singapore of 2026 involving a 26-day-old neonatal ICU patient requiring urgent medical evacuation from Hospital Sultan Idris Shah Serdang, Malaysia to National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore.
The infant was born in Hospital Serdang and diagnosed with sepsis, meningitis, and community-acquired pneumonia shortly after delivery, requiring continuous NICU support, blood transfusion, and intensive monitoring.
Insurer Activation & Neonatal ICU Ambulance Deployment
Following the insurer’s request for a cross-border ambulance transfer to Singapore, the Medivac medical team initiated case assessment and coordinated directly with both hospitals. Upon receiving a Letter of Guarantee (LOG) from the family, a specialised neonatal ambulance team equipped for ICU-level care was deployed.
The receiving team at NUH Singapore was notified to ensure seamless transfer of care and immediate NICU admission upon arrival.
Cross-Border Coordination With Malaysian & Singapore Authorities
Due to the patient’s time-sensitive condition, Medivac coordinated with immigration authorities on both sides to facilitate border clearance and traffic prioritisation for the ambulance to Singapore from Johor Bahru (JB).
Medivac’s Cross-Border Ambulance Service supports neonatal transfers with:
- NICU grade monitoring equipment
- Ventilation and oxygen support
- Continuous vital sign monitoring
- Temperature regulation
- Emergency medication protocols
- Paediatric transfusion support (when required)
Successful NICU Handover at NUH Singapore
The infant was safely transported to NUH, where neonatal specialists assumed further ICU management. The ambulance to Singapore transfer was completed without medical complications during transit.
We extend our prayers for the infant’s recovery and continued progress in Singapore.
