What is the cost to transport a patient from Malaysia to Singapore ?
The cost of medical evacuation primarily depends on the patient’s condition and the duration of transport.Â
For a critically ill patient, a highly specialized team is needed to provide constant monitoring. This team typically includes an emergency medicine specialist and a flight nurse or paramedic.Â
In contrast, an emergency situation involving a less severe injury, such as a fracture, will require a flight paramedic to accompany the patient.Â
Another significant factor influencing the cost is the distance of transport. For instance, the cost of ambulance transport from Johor is generally lower compared to transporting a patient from Kuala Lumpur.Â
At Medivac Emergency Ambulance, our ambulance services between Singapore and Malaysia start at S$650 for a general emergency ambulance.
Claiming for your Ambulance Transportation under your Travel Insurance
The cost of medical evacuation depends on the patient’s condition and the duration of transport. If you are covered by a travel insurance policy, your insurer will eitherÂ
(1) issue a Letter of Guarantee to us orÂ
(2) require you to arrange your own medical evacuation. In this case, you will need to pay for the service upfront and then file a claim with your insurer.Â
It is essential to understand the following regarding medical evacuation which covers the following:Â
- **Emergency Evacuation**: This includes transportation to a medical facility for emergency treatment. If the patient is in critical condition, it is advisable to have them seek medical treatment to stabilize their condition first. A medical evacuation should only be considered if local medical professionals cannot provide adequate care, after carefully weighing the risks and benefits.Â
- **Medical Escort for Repatriation**: Patients who have received treatment but wish to continue their rehabilitation in their home country can have a medical escort accompany them back for ongoing care.

Here are some cases handled by Medivac Emergency Ambulance Service, detailing the costs associated with private ambulance services:Â
Ambulance Cost from Johor to Singapore
In this case, the patient was a motorcyclist who had been involved in an accident. Family members requested an ambulance to transfer him from Johor Bahru (JB) to Singapore. The patient was intubated due to a right lower limb fracture and severe head injury. A three-person medical team, consisting of an Emergency Medicine Specialist and a Flight Paramedic, was activated and picked up the patient from Sultanah Aminah Hospital within two hours of confirmation.Â
The ambulance from JB to Singapore was S$4,800.Â
Ambulance Cost from Kuala Lumpur (KL) Malaysia to Singapore
This case involved a patient who was on vacation in Genting Highland and suddenly experienced difficulty breathing. She was rushed to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL). While at HKL, she suffered a cardiac arrest and required CPR for six minutes. She was revived and diagnosed with Acute Pulmonary Oedema (APO). Her family then requested a medical evacuation from HKL to the National University Hospital (NUH).Â
Because the patient was intubated and on a life support ventilator, a medical team comprising an Anesthesiologist specializing in Intensive Care Medicine and a Flight Nurse was deployed and arrived at the patient’s bedside within five hours of confirmation.Â
The patient was successfully transported to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) for further management.Â
The cost of the ambulance service from Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia to Singapore was S$12,500.
