Frequently Asked Questions
Q1) Should I engage a Medical Transport Service (MTS) or Emergency Ambulance (EAS) for my event?
When organizing an event that includes high-contact or cardiovascular sports, or where there is a significant chance of needing hospital evacuation, we strongly advise opting for an Emergency Ambulance. This choice guarantees swift medical intervention and rapid transportation in the event of an emergency, providing peace of mind for you and your attendees.
For smaller or low risk events, a Medical Transport Service can deliver adequate medical support without the need for comprehensive emergency services. We can also arrange for first responders with basic life support equipment to be present onsite, ensuring safety without the emergency ambulance.
If you are uncertain about which medical service is most appropriate for your event, please reach out to our Event Medical Coordinator at 6100 6911. We are eager to help you evaluate your options and make sure you have the right medical coverage in place to protect everyone involved.
Q2) My event is of low risk such as Food Eating Competition and has a budget constraint. What type of service should I get?
For low-risk events, we recommend having a first responder on standby. First responders are trained to provide immediate assistance in the event of minor injuries or medical issues.
Alternatively, a Medical Transport Service (MTS) can also serve a similar role as first responders. If a situation arises where the patient needs to be transported to the hospital, the MTS will call for an Emergency Ambulance to provide transportation. This option offers a cost-effective solution while ensuring medical assistance is available if needed.
Q3) My event is a large-scale event (e.g. marathon) . Must I only engage Emergency Ambulance throughout the route?
You do not need to rely on an Emergency Ambulances for the entire route.
Instead, consider utilizing a combination of Medical Transport Services (MTS), bicycle medics, and Emergency Ambulances for a streamlined response.
MTS or bicycle medics are equipped to handle initial situations effectively. If advanced care becomes necessary, they can easily activate an Emergency Ambulance to provide crucial treatment and transport.
Moreover, Medivac can set up a dedicated onsite medical post, staffed by our skilled emergency medicine specialists and nurses, ensuring patients are stabilized before being sent to the hospital.
For any questions or further details, please reach out to our event coordinator at 6100 6911. Your safety is our priority!
Q4) If I engage a Medical Transport Service (MTS) for my event and a participant is injured and is deemed an emergency by the medic, can the MTS convey the patient to the nearest emergency department?
Unfortunately, MTS vehicles are not allowed to convey emergency patients to hospitals. Common types of emergencies seen during events include fractures, dislocations, head injuries, and cardiac arrest. The MTS crew is fully equipped and trained to provide first aid and stabilizing treatment to the patient while waiting for an Emergency Ambulance to transport the patient to the hospital.
Q5) Why can’t the Medical Transport Service (MTS) convey emergency patients to the hospital?
While MTS vehicles are fully equipped with first aid equipment to manage simple emergencies, they do not come with sirens and emergency lights, as regulated by the Healthcare Services Act (HCSA) under the Ministry of Health. Additionally, MTS medics are not trained to administer life-saving medications, and such cases require the advanced skills of paramedics or emergency medical crews from an Emergency Ambulance.
MTS crews can provide first aid and stabilize the patient while waiting for an Emergency Ambulance to arrive and transport the patient to the hospital for further treatment.
Q6) I am doing an event for a charity cause. Can I request a sponsorship?
Yes, arrangements for sponsorship can be made. Please get in touch with our Event Medical Coordinator at 6100 6911 for more information on how we can support your charity event.
Q7) Do you provide a replacement ambulance if your ambulance conveys a patient to hospital?
Yes, we do provide a 1-to-1 replacement ambulance in the event that the onsite ambulance team determines the patient requires transport to the hospital via our ambulance
